Venus Descent
Current Project “Venus Descent” explores the planet Venus’s descent/ascent orbit and the paralleling historical legend explaining this planetary cycle.

Field recordings, images, sculptures and poems created during this planetary cycle document the artist’s relationship to Venus research.

“Venus Descent” explores astronomy, ancient mythology and field research self-studies in botany, conchology and meditation.

Sculptures / Pendants

P.NINA is an ongoing sculpture project and wearable collection. Shell sculptures are created using recycled sterling silver and recycled gold (by request). These pieces are wearable, if you choose, and are for sale on the website.

materials: recycled sterling silver (*pieces are made of solid sterling silver, they are not shells coated in silver)

includes: sterling silver piece + silk cord

**does not include chain, chains available separately

each piece is made to order, please allow 10 weeks for your order to be made. 14k-24k gold available by request

imperfections are intentional and honored. each piece is based on and model after actual found shells. Textures, markings and patterning on each shell holds environmental information which is embraced in this study

Silk cords included with each pendant vary in width and will have color variations. You will receive the silk cord color best matched to your preference request.
Color options: cream, tan/sand, navy, royal blue, light blue, grey-blue, red, black

Images

The original images from this project were shot on 35mm and iPhone by Peyton Sandler and are archived at this time. Current featured photography of the collection credits: Carolyne Teston, Jenna Saraco, Ellie Kitman, Bryan Anton.

Shell Research

Reef builders , moon cycle record keepers . Lessons from the shell spiral

.

“The ancient mollusk, from an extinct and wildly diverse group known as rudist clams, grew fast, laying down daily growth rings. The new study used lasers to sample minute slices of shell and count the growth rings more accurately than human researchers with microscopes.

The growth rings allowed the researchers to determine the number of days in a year and more accurately calculate the length of a day 70 million years ago. The new measurement informs models of how the Moon formed and how close to Earth it has been over the 4.5-billion-year history of the Earth-Moon gravitational dance.

The new study also found corroborating evidence that the mollusks harbored photosynthetic symbionts that may have fueled reef-building on the scale of modern-day corals.” -sciencedaily

Each shell has an environmental record preserved within its layers , spirals , shapes , textural codes . Shells hold environmental information, tidal patterns, and orbital cycles.

.

“Some growth increments are a reflection of tidal cycles, some show annual periodicity. So the series of growth increments within a shell are essentially a record of the animal’s lifetime and, similar to the study of tree-rings, some scientists study them to make interpretations about the environment where that animal lived and grew. “

“Heavy metals incorporated into the shell can provide a record of environmental contamination or pollution.” -science.org

925 Silver Care

Use a polishing cloth intended for 925 silver to remove tarnish

Avoid exposure to household chemicals, chlorinated water, sulfur, & extended direct sunlight

Wearing pieces often will naturally prevent tarnish due to the oils of the skin

Snake chains are sensitive and delicate. If snake chains come in contact with fine dirt or sand particles, the integrity of the chain may be lost or cause damage.

Storage

Store pieces individually to prevent scratching, Airtight container recommended

Repairs

Any repairs within 3 months of receiving your order are free of charge

Repairs after 3 months are $40 + shipping
